Since the beginning of time, humans have been creating our world through the stories they tell. Stories shape our world so if we want change, we have to start telling different stories - the real story

And we need your help. Your story (yes, yours!) has the power to change the world - for you and everyone who reads it.

Why Should You Share Your Story?

TO PRACTICE COURAGE

Sharing your story gives you the chance to speak honestly and openly about who you are, the battles you fight and the battles won. Being able to share your journey (the good and the bad) is the definition of courage and you have an opportunity to practice it with the Real Diet Story. Every time we practice courage, we make everyone around us a little braver too.

.

TO HEAL & RELEASE SHAME

According to the great Brene Brown, shame needs 3 things to grow =  secrecy, silence and judgment. Shame hates it when we tell our story and it thrives off of secrecy. If you want to release shame around our stories, then we need to share our experience. Shame loses power when it is spoken and it gives us the chance to heal.

TO HAVE IMPACT

If you struggle with sharing your story for your own opportunity to heal, then do it for someone else. Do it for another mother, daughter or sister who is still struggling and stuck in the throws of restriction, obsession or self-punishment. Let others know that there is another way and another way of living and being. Your story WILL have an impact and it will change lives. There is NO doubt about that. So, be the light that sparks positive change in others.

TELL YOUR STORY

"Shame hates it when we reach out and tell our story. It hates having words wrapped around it - it can't survive being shared. Shame loves secrecy. When we bury our story, the shame metastasizes."

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Below you'll find a brief outline of our submission guidelines so you'll know what we'll need from you when your application is accepted.

Complete details, including some writing prompt suggestions to help you get started will be included in your acceptance email.

Written Stories Requirements

  1. Submit your 800-1500 word story (the word count is a guideline, so don’t let it get you stuck, but we would prefer to keep it under 1500) via google doc or word doc. You can even put it in the body of an email if the other two options don’t work for you.
  2. Submit a picture for us to use to promote your story. Please don’t stress over this! Sharing your story means being brave to show up EXACTLY as you are. When you show up as yourself being brave, you give others permission to be brave as well.
  3. Submit both within 14 days of this email. This is to give you a deadline and so that we can manage rolling out all our submissions.

Video Stories Requirements

  1. If you'd like to submit your story via video, Amanda or Roni will contact you for a date to schedule your ZOOM call recording. It will be recorded within 14 days of your application approval (can be extended on special request).
  2. They will prompt you and guide you with questions so that you can flesh out your story.
  3. Video will be approx 15 minutes long or shorter.
  4. Submit a picture for us to use to promote your story!
  5. Submit both within 14 days of this email. This is to give you a deadline and so that we can manage rolling out all our submissions. Your story won't be able to be published until both are received.
